The miraculous rebirth of Jodie's Story - another type of God whisper

I’ve used my friend’s ‘street name’. ‘Jodie’ is not her real name.

I dialled the number slowly.

Could I really ask this of Jodie? Her story in the biographical novel, Jodie’s Story, now published twice in different editions, had already sold many thousands of copies. Jodie was now happily married with adult children. Would she want to revisit that dark part of her youth? – the part that had, ironically, helped and inspired so many young people. Could I ask it of her?

‘Hello, Jodie speaking.’

‘Jodie, it’s Jeanette.’ We chatted, then I took a deep breath. ‘You’ll never guess. Another publisher wants to publish your story again. That’ll be three editions. You can say ‘no’ if you want to. Or …’

Jodie was silent for a minute, then, ‘Let me think about it. I’ll get back to you.’

A few days later, while I was thinking, Two editions is probably all. She won’t want to get that type of limelight again, the phone rang. Jodie.

‘Guess what!’ she said. ‘I was out walking, thinking about the book. I bumped into a lady and we got talking. She was a Christian too. Turned out she’d been in the same sort of scenes as I had. Drugs, prostitution etc. I was surprised and asked her how she’d managed to get out of it all, remembering my own rugged journey. And she said, “I read a book called Jodie’s Story!”

‘You can imagine how I felt. So, Jeanette, go ahead and get it published again. Who am I to stand in the way of God?’

So the edition pictured here is the third edition and that’s how it came to be published.

  1. It's always amazing how the Lord uses the broken people to connect and minister to others, and how He amazingly puts us across the paths of those we had no idea that we had touched somewhere along the way. Blessings to you, Jeanette, and to Jodie, on being brave enough to publish her story. As the old saying goes, little things from big things grow.
